Three takeaways

-

Karlsson finally finds the net: William Karlsson redirected a shot from Reilly Smith to beat Carter Hutton midway through the third period. It was his first goal of the season in the seventh game. Last year, the first of his 43 goals also came in the seventh game of the season.

Revenge on their minds: The Knights improved to 2-0 on the season against teams that previously defeated them, avenging a 4-2 loss in Buffalo last week. Saturday’s win at Philadelphia came nine days after the Flyers opened the season with a win at T-mobile Arena.

Putting Eichel on ice: There was quite a bit of talk before the game about how the Knights would have to account for where the Sabres star was on the ice after he recorded two goals in the first meeting. Mission accomplished. Eichel was limited to three harmless shots as he was constantly escorted around the ice by the Knights defense. that were so prevalent on the road trip.

“Those are sometimes not the easiest when you don’t have many shots,” said Fleury, who earned his 407th win to a move into a tie for 10th-place on the alltime list with Glenn Hall. “I think that first period was a quiet one. I just try to follow the game and sing songs between whistles. Whatever to stay moving or active.

“When the guys play so well in front of me, it makes my job a lot easier. Tonight, I think, was our best game and I think it showed.”

Buffalo got on the board with 37 seconds remaining in the game when Vladimir Sobotka forced a rebound past Fleury. Marchessault tacked on an empty-net goal 24 seconds later.

“This was more like last year when we were good,” Karlsson said after scoring his first goal of the season. “It was a 60-minute team performance. All three zones we played great. This is the Vegas way. This is how we have to play.”

Karlsson and Reilly Smith each had two assists.

The Knights continue their five-game homestand on Saturday when they host Pacific Division-leading Anaheim at 7 p.m.
