USA Gymnastics leader Bono leaves after Kaepernick furor

Bono stepped down as the interim president for USA Gymnastics just four days after taking over, saying she felt her affiliatio­n with the organizati­on would be a “liability” after a social media post by Bono criticizin­g Nike and former San Francisco 49ers quarterbac­k Colin Kaepernick drew widespread scrutiny within the gymnastics community.

She posted a picture on Twitter in September of herself drawing over a Nike logo on a golf shoe. Bono, who was at a golf tournament for families who have lost members of the armed services at the time, called the tweet

“an emotional reaction” to Nike’s use of the phrase “believing in something even if it means sacrificin­g everything.”

Track: Four men were found guilty in Lexington, Kentucky, in connection with the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Trinity Gay, daughter of Olympic track star Tyson Gay.

Authoritie­s said Trinity Gay was an innocent bystander who was shot in the neck during a parking lot shootout in 2016.

Golf: Laura Davies recovered from a pair of early bogeys for a 2-under 70 that gave her a two-shot lead at 6-under 138 going into the final round of the Senior LPGA Championsh­ip in French Lick, Indiana.

Brandie Burton was at 4-under after a 6-under 66, the best round of the tournament.

Tennis: UNLV’S Olle Thestrup won twice to advance to the round of 16 of the ITA Mountain Region Men’s Championsh­ips at Darling Tennis Center.

Thestrup, a senior transfer from Auburn, upset sixth-seeded Mattia Ros of Denver 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 before beating New Mexico’s Karlo Divkovic 6-3, 6-3.
