Kings activate goalie Quick; captain Kopitar (illness) out

The Los Angeles Kings activated Jonathan Quick from injured reserve and sent fellow goaltender Peter Budaj back to their American Hockey League affiliate in Ontario.

Quick, beginning his 11th season as the

Kings’ starting goalie, played in Los Angeles’ season opener but missed the next five games with a lower-body injury sustained in practice. Jack Campbell played all five games in the Kings’ net in Quick’s absence.

Also, center and captain Anze Kopitar (illness) sat out Los Angeles’ game Thursday against the New York Islanders.

Tennis: No. 1-ranked Simona Halep withdrew from the WTA Finals because of a lower back injury, meaning Kiki Bertens will join Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova, Caroline Wozniacki, Sloane Stephens, Karolina Pliskova and Elina Svitolina in Singapore for the $7 million tournament from Sunday to Oct. 28.
