Fowler caps hat trick in OT, ends Ducks’ skid

Cam Fowler capped his first career hat trick by scoring 36 seconds into overtime to help the Anaheim Ducks end a seven-game slide, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Sunday.

John Gibson made 24 saves for the Ducks, who had been 0-5-2 since defeating the New York Islanders 4-1 on Oct. 17.

Pierre-luc Dubois scored twice for the Blue Jackets, and Joonas Korpisalo made 27 saves.

Fowler scored on a one-timer from Adam Henrique to end Anaheim’s skid. It was Fowler’s 56th career goal, tying Francois Beauchemin for second-most by a Anaheim defenseman all-time.

Dubois earned Columbus a point by scoring with 31.3 seconds left in the third period to tie the game at 2.

The Blue Jackets went 0-for6 on the power play and are 2-for-38 in their past 10 games.

Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf (upper-body injury) did not play and is considered day to day.

At New York, Jimmy Vesey scored twice to back Henrik Lundqvist, who had 39 saves, as New York won its third straight.

Neal Pionk and Vesey scored 19 seconds apart on the Rangers’ first two shots of the second period against Carter Hutton, who totaled 19 saves.

Lundqvist’s win was his fourth of the season and 435th overall, moving him two behind Jacques Plante for seventh on the NHL’S all-time list.

New York rookie Brett Howden notched his sixth assist of the season before exiting with an undisclose­d injury in the second period.

At Ottawa, Ontario, Brayden Point scored the tying goal with 27 seconds left in regulation on a two-man advantage and assisted on Yanni Gourde’s goal 14 seconds into overtime.

Ryan Mcdonagh had three assists in support of Louis Domingue, who stopped 22 shots, as Tampa Bay overcame a 2-0 deficit after the first period.
