Gibbs rights ship to advance at Red Rock; 2017 champ out

Nicole Gibbs rallied from a first-set deficit to defeat Maria Sanchez 7-5, 6-0 in the first round of the Red Rock Pro Open at Red Rock Country Club.

Sanchez took a 5-2 lead before Gibbs reeled off the last 11 games.

Gibbs next faces Grace Min, who eliminated Sesil Karatantch­eva, last year’s Red Rock champion, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

2010 Las Vegas Open champion Varvara Lepchenko was ousted Tuesday by Kurumi Nara 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
