Tagovailoa, fellow QB Murray finalists for two awards apiece

Alabama quarterbac­k Tua Tagovailoa, Oklahoma quarterbac­k Kyler Murray, Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins each were named finalists for two of the nine awards to be presented Dec. 6 at the ESPN college Football Awards Show in Atlanta.

Tagovailoa and Murray are finalists for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the nation’s best player, and the Davey O’brien Award, for best quarterbac­k. Williams and Wilkins are finalists for the Outland Trophy for best lineman and the Chuck Bednarik Award for best defensive player.

Texas: Defensive end Breckyn Hager was reprimande­d by the Big 12 for violating the conference’s sportsmans­hip and ethical conduct policy after making a disparagin­g joke about Oklahoma to a reporter Saturday.

Syracuse: Coach Dino Babers said he his hopeful quarterbac­k Eric Dungey, who sustained an unspecifie­d lower-back injury Saturday and missed three quarters of action, will be available to play this week.

William & Mary: Mike London, 58, who just finished his second season at Howard, was hired to replace the retiring Jimmye Laycock, 70, as the Tribe’s coach. Laycock went 249194-2 in 39 seasons.

Northern Arizona: Jerome Souers is resigning as coach after guiding the Lumberjack­s to a 123-114 record over 21 seasons but will remain with the athletic department.
