Flames win after coach struck in jaw by puck

-

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Calgary coach Bill Peters needed eight stitches in his left jaw Sunday after being hit with a puck during the Flames’ 6-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

He was hit with 16:23 left in the second period and was helped to the locker room, holding a towel over his jaw. He returned without a bandage with 5:07 to play in the period.

“It’s going to hurt more tomorrow, right?” Peters said after the game, the nasty cut and stitches clearly visible. “One of those things. There’s not a lot of room up there; you’ve got to be paying attention. …

“They did a good job, got me stitched up and back to work. … Hopefully it’s the last time, but I doubt it.”

Noah Hanifin and Mark Jankowski each scored twice for the Flames, who totaled three short-handed goals and won for the fourth time in five games.

The Coyotes lost their fourth straight.

Predators 5, Ducks 2 — At Nashville, Tenn., Austin Watson, who entered with one goal this season, scored one in each period — with two on the power play — as Nashville won its sixth straight home game.

Pekka Rinne had 17 saves while improving to 17-6-1 against Anaheim, which got goals from Adam Henrique and Ondrej Kase.

Lightning 5, Devils 2 —

At Tampa, Fla., Brayden Point had two goals and an assist to back Louis Domingue, who had 33 saves, as Tampa Bay won its third straight.

Cory Schneider, who stopped 30 shots, remained winless — at 0-15-2 — since Dec. 27, and New Jersey fell to 2-9 in road games this season.

Kings 5, Oilers 2 — At Los Angeles, Dustin Brown scored a goal in each period, and Anze Kopitar had a goal and two assists as Los Angeles halted a five-game home skid.

Connor Mcdavid assisted on the first of Alex Chiasson’s two goals, extending his point streak to seven games.

Cal Petersen had 32 saves for the Kings and Cam Talbot 27 for the Oilers, who went 1-1-1 on their first road trip under coach Ken Hitchcock.
