Iowa State too much for No. 8 Texas Tech

Marial Shayok scored 20 points as Iowa State downed No. 8 Texas Tech 68-64 on Wednesday, handing the Red Raiders their first Big 12 loss of the season.

Michael Jacobson had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Cyclones (134, 3-2), who matched their win total from last season.

Texas Tech (15-2, 4-1) was the last Big 12 team without a conference loss and missed on a chance for its first 5-0 start in the Big 12, dating to 199697. The Red Raiders’ only other loss was to No. 1 Duke.

At College Station, Texas, Bryce Brown scored 20 of his 22 points in the first half for the Tigers (13-3, 2-1 Southeaste­rn), including one stretch in which he posted an 18-10 scoring edge over the Aggies (7-8, 1-3).

At Norman, Okla., Barry Brown scored 25 points for the Wildcats (13-4,

3-2 Big 12), who shot 50 percent and dealt the Sooners (13-4, 2-3) their first home loss and first defeat by an unranked team.

At Dallas, Corey Davis Jr. scored 20 points for the Cougars (17-1, 4-1 American Athletic), who gave coach Kelvin Sampson his 100th win at Houston and 600th overall. The Mustangs (11-6, 3-2) never led.

At State College, Pa., Luka Garza put the Hawkeyes (15-3, 4-3 Big Ten) ahead to stay with a free throw with 1:36 left and totaled 22 points and 12 rebounds. The Nittany Lions (7-11, 0-7) lost their fifth in a row.

At San Jose, Calif., Diogo Brito had 23 points and six assists for the Aggies (135, 3-2), who overcame Noah Baumann’s 29 points to rout the Spartans (3-13, 0-4).
