Kane, Hertl help keep Sharks hot, close gap on Flames atop division

Evander Kane scored twice and had an assist in the San Jose Sharks’ 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

Tomas Hertl also scored twice,

Brent Burns added a goal, and Martin Jones made 36 saves for the Sharks, who won their four straight to move within two points of Calgary for the Pacific Division lead.

Mark Jankowski and T.J. Brodie scored for the Flames, who lost at home in regulation for the first time in nine games.

At Philadelph­ia, Tyler Toffoli scored the decisive shootout goal to back

Jonathan Quick, who had 30 saves.

At Ottawa, Ontario, Anders Nilsson stopped 45 shots in his fourth shutout and first this season, and Matt Duchene scored twice as Ottawa snapped a five-game skid.

At Washington, Evgeny Kuznetsov scored on a breakaway with 48 seconds left in OT to back Pheonix Copley, who had 34 saves.

At Tampa, Fla., Brayden Schenn scored with 58.2 seconds left in overtime, and Jordan Binnington made 32 saves in his second shutout.

At St. Paul, Minn., Connor Mcdavid and Ryan Nugent-hopkins each had two assists to back Cam Talbot, who had 35 saves, as Edmonton halted a six-game skid.

At Montreal, Jonathan Drouin had two goals and two assists, and Carey Price had 32 saves in his seventh straight victory for Montreal.

At Newark, N.J., Josh Bailey scored the decisive shootout goal for New York to back Thomas Greiss, who had 30 saves.

At Nashville, Tenn., Ryan Johansen scored 43 seconds into overtime, and Juuse Saros made 27 saves in his sixth win in his past seven starts, halting Dallas’ five-game win streak.

At Glendale, Ariz., Boone Jenner and Josh Anderson each had a goal and and assist to back Sergei Bobrovsky, who had 29 saves.

At Sunrise, Fla., Mike Matheson scored with 46 seconds left in overtime to back Roberto Luongo, who had 29 saves, a Florida won for the seventh time in nine games.

At Buffalo, N.Y., Teuvo Teravainen scored his second goal of the game with 1:35 left in overtime for Carolina.

At Chicago, Jonathan Toews scored with 1:39 left in overtime, and Alex Debrincat scored twice for Chicago.
