Rondo’s 20-footer at horn pushes Lakers past Celtics

-

Rajon Rondo hit a 20-foot jumper as time expired to lift the Los Angeles Lakers over the Boston Celtics 129-128 on Thursday.

Lebron James had 28 points, 12 assists and 12 rebounds, becoming the third Lakers player with a triple-double in Boston, joining Magic Johnson and Elgin Baylor.

Kyle Kuzma added 25 points and Rondo 17 points and 10 assists to help Los Angeles bounce back after a 42-point loss at Indiana on Tuesday.

Rondo was in the right place at the right time for his final shot against the team with which he won an NBA title in 2008. Brandon Ingram had his layup attempt blocked by Al Horford, but Horford whiffed on the rebound, and the ball bounced into Rondo’s hands.

Kyrie Irving led Boston with 24 points and eight assists. Jayson Tatum added 22 points and 10 rebounds and Daniel Theis had 20 points off the bench for the Celtics, who had won five in a row.

At Atlanta, Pascal Siakam scored a careerhigh 33 points and had 13 rebounds, and Fred Vanvleet added a career-best 30 points for Toronto, which overcame a 17-point deficit despite using only nine players.

At Oklahoma City, Russell Westbrook had 15 points, 15 assists and 13 rebounds for Oklahoma City in his eighth straight triple-double, one short of Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA record of nine straight set in 1968. At Portland, Ore., C.J. Mccollum hit seven 3-pointers and totaled 30 points for Portland, which won for the seventh time in nine games and handed San Antonio its third straight loss. Demar Derozan scored 35 points for the Spurs.

At Orlando, Fla., reserve Terrence Ross made six 3-pointers and 13 of 23 shots overall en route to scoring 32 points for Orlando, which shot 54 percent and scored a season-high 71 first-half points.

At Indianapolis, Bojan Bogdanovic had 29 points and Myles Turner 17 points and six blocks for Indiana, which scored 13 straight points in a 17-2 second-quarter run and won its fourth straight.
