Mcelhinney, Hurricanes stop Oilers

RALEIGH, N.C. — Nino Niederreit­er scored two goals, Curtis Mcelhinney stopped the final 40 shots he faced, and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 on Friday.

Lucas Wallmark also scored and Sebastian Aho had two assists for the Hurricanes, who have won 15 of 21 since Dec. 31 for the NHL’S best record in that span. Carolina moved a point behind idle Pittsburgh for the East’s final wild-card playoff spot.

Devils 5, Wild 4, OT — At St. Paul, Minn., Nico Hischier scored with 1:41 left in overtime, and Cory Schneider had 15 saves in relief, including three in overtime, in his first win since Dec. 27, 2017. Schneider had been 0-17-4 in that span. Hischier, Marcus Johansson and Kyle Palmieri each had a goal and an assist for New Jersey, which trailed 4-1.

Bruins 3, Ducks 0 — At Anaheim, Calif., Jaroslav Halak had 30 saves in his 46th shutout and fourth this season, and Noel Acciari, Jake Debrusk and Chris Wagner scored as Boston won its fourth straight and handed Anaheim its eighth loss in nine games and 20th in its past 22. The Bruins had lost nine of their previous 10 to the Ducks.

Rangers 6, Sabres 2 — At Buffalo, N.Y., Vladislav Namestniko­v had two goals and an assist to back rookie Alexandar Georgiev, who had 31 saves, including 13 in the final period. Jeff Skinner scored twice, including his Buffalo-best 36th goal.
