Brewers get Moustakas on one-year, $10M deal

Mike Moustakas headed back to Milwaukee on a one-year, $10 million deal, with a mutual option for a second year.

A two-time Allstar, Moustakas, 30, batted .251 with 28 home runs and 95 RBIS in 152 games split between the Brewers and Kansas City in 2018. A .251 career hitter, he spent his first seven major league seasons with the Royals before they traded him on July 27.

Padres: Free-agent lefthanded reliever Aaron Loup, 31, agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal with San Diego that includes a $2 million option for 2020 with a $200,000 buyout. He spent his first seven major league seasons with Toronto before being traded to Philadelph­ia on July 31, notching a career 3.49 ERA.

Angels: Shohei Ohtani, 24, said he hopes to hit off a tee this week for the first time since his Oct. 1 Tommy John surgery, and the team believes the earliest the reigning American League Rookie of the Year could be ready to hit in games is May.

Marlins: Left-hander Caleb Smith faced hitters for the first time since undergoing left latissimus dorsi surgery in July. The 27-year-old went 5-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 16 starts as a rookie in 2018.

Giants: Free-agent outfielder Cameron Maybin, 31, a .254 hitter with 174 stolen bases in 12 major league seasons with seven teams, agreed to a minor league deal, pending a physical, with San Francisco.

Mariners: Center fielder Mallex Smith, 25, will not participat­e in throwing and fielding drills for seven to 10 days because of shoulder soreness sustained while throwing in January.

Rangers: Free-agent outfielder Ben Revere, 30, a .284 hitter with 211 stolen bases in eight major league seasons with five teams, signed a minor league deal with Texas.

Pirates: Right-hander Jameson Taillon, 27, who was 1410 with a 3.20 ERA in 32 starts in 2018, will start on Opening Day, manager Clint Hurdle said.
