Canada tops U.S. for women’s hockey title
Brianne Jenner and Blayre Turnbull scored to back Shannon Szabados, who had 38 saves, as the Canada women’s hockey team beat the United States 2-0 in Detroit to win the inaugural Rivalry Series.
The U.S., which held a 38-17 edge in shots, won 1-0 on Tuesday in London, Ontario, and Canada evened the best-of-three set with a 4-3 victory Thursday in Toronto. They meet again in April at the world championship in Finland.
Bowling: At Columbus,

Skiing: At Are, Sweden, Marcel Hirscher coasted to his third slalom title at the Alpine world championships, matching fellow Austrian Toni Sailer as the lone male skiers to win seven career golds at worlds.
College football: Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt, under contract through 2021, agreed to leave the Ducks with a financial settlement that will pay him $2.5 million over multiple years.
Soccer: At Cuneo, Italy, Pro Piacenza, a third-tier team with financial problems, lost 20-0 to Cueno after being able to field only seven players, all of them from ages 16 to 19.
