Yankees’ Stanton back on IL with right knee sprain
New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton went back on the 10-day injured list with a right knee sprain, barely a week after returning from a series of setbacks that sidelined him for almost three months.
Manager Aaron
Boone said it’s likely the outfielder, who has batted .290 with one home run and seven RBIS in nine games this season, will be sidelined for longer than 10 days.
Stanton, 29, in the fifth season of a 13year, $325 million contract, has dealt with a torn biceps and strains in his shoulder and calf in 2019.
White Sox: Shortstop Tim Anderson (high right ankle sprain), batting .317 with 11 home runs and 15 stolen bases this season, was in a walking boot a day after being injured. X-rays were negative, and the results of an MRI examination will be revealed Friday, manager Rick Renteria said.
Angels: Right-hander Shohei Ohtani threw 40 pitches off a mound and made 70 additional throws off flat ground, his first time throwing since undergoing Tommy John surgery Oct. 1. Ohtani,
24, will not pitch in a game until 2020, manager Brad Ausmus confirmed.
Indians: Right-hander Corey Kluber will undergo tests on his broken right arm Thursday. He’ll begin playing catch if the results show the bone still is healing properly, manager Terry Francona said.
Red Sox: Knuckleballer Steven
Wright made his season debut after serving an 80-game PED suspension, striking out one in one hitless, shutout inning in Boston’s loss to the Chicago White Sox.
Diamondbacks: Third baseman Jake Lamb (left quadriceps strain), a 2017 Allstar, was activated and went 0-for-4 with an error in his first game since April 3.
