Italian sprints to claim first Tour stage victory

Italian rider Elia Viviani prevailed in a sprint to claim his first career stage win at the Tour de France.

Viviani made the most of the slight uphill finish in the eastern city of Nancy, using his considerab­le power to edge Alexander Kristoff and Caleb Ewan and claim the 133-mile fourth stage of the three-week race.

Viviani’s teammate Julian Alaphilipp­e, the first Frenchman to wear the yellow jersey in five years after his solo victory in Stage 3, kept the overall lead, with no change at the top of the overall standings.

NHL: Chicago traded defenseman Henri Jokiharju to Buffalo for forward Alex Nylander. Nylander, who was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2016 draft, had three goals and three assists in just 19 games with the Sabres over three seasons. Jokiharju, the No. 29 selection in the 2017 draft, made his NHL debut in October and finished with no goals and 12 assists in 38 games with the Blackhawks.

NHL: Colorado agreed to a twoyear contract extension through 202122 with coach Jared Bednar after he guided the team to back-to-back playoff appearance­s.

NHL: Former Nashville captain Greg Johnson died Monday at 48. No other details were provided. He also played for Detroit, Pittsburgh and Chicago during his 12 seasons, finishing with 145 goals and 224 assists in 785 games.

NFL: Former Detroit and Houston safety Glover Quin has retired after 10 seasons. He had an Nfl-high seven intercepti­ons in 2014 with the Lions and 24 intercepti­ons during his career.

NBA: Milwaukee re-signed guard George Hill to a three-year contract. The 33-year-old averaged 6.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists over 47 games with the Bucks last season.

Bribery scandal: Harvard fired fencing coach Peter Brand over the sale of his home in 2016 for nearly $1 million, double its assessed value, to a wealthy businessma­n whose teenage son was later admitted to the school and joined the team.
