Donations sought to help homeless youth in valley
Clark County and a local nonprofit are seeking donations for homeless youth at a North Las Vegas community event Saturday.
The event, held by the Clark County Summer Business Institute and the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Pearson Center at 1625 W. Carey Ave.
The organizations are requesting donations of nonperishable food items, male and female hygiene products, new underwear and socks. Donors will receive a raffle ticket for every item donated.
In addition to raffle prizes, the event will offer informational booths about youth homelessness, a car wash and snacks.
This year, the Department of Housing and Urban Development released its 2018 Annual Homeless Assessment Report, which identified Nevada as the state with the highest rate of homelessness among youth and one of 10 states where at least half of those experiencing homelessness were unsheltered. and another woman at their south Las Vegas home.
Jail records identified the woman as Jackie Lee Johnson, 38. She was being held on $40,000 bail at the Clark County Detention Center as of Thursday.
Online court records for the case identified the woman as Jackie Hawkins.
Few details have been released, but Las Vegas police have said the woman stabbed her boyfriend and the other woman during an argument about
12:15 a.m. Wednesday after the woman arrived at her home in an apartment complex at 6930 S. Paradise Road, near Sunset Road, to find her boyfriend inside the unit with another woman.
The woman left the apartment but returned a short time later, at which point she was taken into custody, police said. Her boyfriend and the other woman were taken to a local hospital with survivable injuries.
