Las Vegas woman facing drunken driving charge

A Las Vegas woman faces a charge of drunken driving resulting in death after she crashed her Mercedes into a parked semitraile­r Monday, killing her front-seat passenger, police said.

2019 Mercedes-benz GLC 300 east on Robindale Road at about 4:45 a.m. when she veered off the road just east of Duneville Street, slamming into the semitraile­r, according to the Metropolit­an Police Department.

Kim and her passenger, a 21-year-old from State College, Pennsylvan­ia, were taken to University Medical Center, where the man was rushed into surgery but died.

Kim was treated for “substantia­l” injuries before she was arrested and remained in the Clark County Detention Center on Monday, according to jail records.

The passenger’s identity is being withheld pending family notificati­on. Monday that a man by that name was registered as a substitute teacher from March 2009 to May 6, 2019.

Cochran, 72, is not currently employed by the district.

It remained unclear whether his charges stemmed from an incident at a school. The school district directed questions to the Metropolit­an Police Department, which is investigat­ing.

Cochran pleaded not guilty and denies the charges, said his attorney, Joshua Tomsheck. He posted bond on July 16 and is under house arrest with electronic monitoring.

Conditions of Cochran’s bail include no contact with minors, no substitute teaching and staying away from all schools, according to court records.

Tomsheck declined further comment on the case or his client’s employment.
