Illinois senators ask Manfred for data on foul ball injuries

-

Illinois’ two senators continued their pressure campaign on Major League Baseball to be more proactive about fan safety at ballparks, urging greater transparency about how often and how seriously fans are hurt by foul balls.

Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth sent a letter to commissioner Rob Manfred after previously calling on all 30

MLB teams to extend protective netting to the foul poles at their stadiums.

Tigers: Right-handed reliever Trevor Rosenthal was designated for assignment after allowing seven earned run on three hits and 11 walks and striking out 12 in nine innings. Washington, which released the 29-year-old 2015 All-star on June 23, is paying most of his $7 million salary.

White Sox: Chicago became the first major league team since at least 1974 to put a runner on base in every inning of a four-game series. The White Sox scored 26 runs and won three times at Detroit.

Cubs: Two-time All-star catcher Jonathan Lucroy signed with Chicago. The 33-year-old was designated for assignment Friday by the Los Angeles Angels and released Wednesday.

Blue Jays: Right-hander Zack Godley, who went 15-11 in 2018, was claimed off waivers from Arizona, where the 29-yearold had spent his previous five major league seasons.

Marlins: Shortstop Miguel Rojas (right hamstring strain), batting .289 in 108 games, was placed on the 10-day injured list and will undergo further tests Thursday.

Red Sox: Four-time All-star second baseman Dustin Pedroia, 35, limited to six games this season, all in April, had another surgery on his troublesome left knee.

Twins: Minnesota turned its second 5-43 triple play this season, both with left-hander Martin Perez pitching, in its loss to Atlanta. The other was on July 22.

Orioles: Baltimore will serve as the host team against Boston in the fourth MLB Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 23, 2020.
