A 24-year-old man with a sawed-off shotgun was shot dead by Las Vegas police in front of a red car the man allegedly tried to steal toward the end of a chase Tuesday with speeds of more than 100 mph through multiple areas of the valley.

On Friday, the Metropolitan Police Department released footage of the shooting and identified the man who was shot and killed by officers near Siegel Suites, 455 E. Twain Ave.

The man was Chase Rosa, Metro said.

Police say that at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, an officer saw a white sedan driving erratically near Interstate 15 and Charleston Boulevard and called in the license plate, which was stolen, Metro Capt. Nichole Splinter said in a briefing after the shooting.

In the footage released Friday, the sedan is seen from a Metro helicopter camera maneuvering on Las Vegas streets. Police said the vehicle also entered Henderson and reached 120 mph.

When the car stops at the Siegel Suites, the man whom police identified as Rosa steps out of the vehicle and appears to move up to a red car waiting to turn onto Twain Avenue. Police allege Rosa attempted a carjacking.

Seconds after Rosa exits, officers arriving in two unmarked vehicles begin to exit and start toward Rosa. Though it is not heard in any footage provided by the department, one of the officers identified himself as a police officer, according to Metro.

With the shotgun still in hand, Rosa begins to turn toward the approaching officer, the footage shows. The officer, along with another officer riding in the same vehicle, fire their handguns at Rosa. He falls to the ground in front of the red car, the footage shows.

Rosa was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said. He died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Clark County coroner.
