Bryan brothers spark Rollers to narrow victory over Aviators

Twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan won the final game of extended play Tuesday as the Las Vegas Rollers beat the San Diego Aviators 2321 in World Teamtennis play at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Sam Querrey got Vegas rolling with five aces and two service breaks to post a 5-1 openingset men’s singles win against San Diego’s Ryan Harrison, and Monica Puig followed with a 5-4 women’s singles victory over Christina Mchale to give Las Vegas (1-1) a 10-5 lead.

But the Aviators recovered with victories in mixed doubles and women’s doubles and then tied the match with a win in men’s doubles.

But the Bryan brothers closed out the match for the Rollers by winning the final game of extended play.

The Rollers return to the court on Thursday to take on the Orange County Breakers at 8 a.m.

Soccer: Former president of the Afghan soccer federation lost his appeal Tuesday against a life ban for sexually abusing women’s national team players.
