Rebels volleyball earns team academic acclaim
UNLV volleyball was one of 217 NCAA Division I programs to receive the
U.S. Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s 201920 Team Academic Award. The Rebels have earned the award six straight years and a total of seven times dating back to the 2007-08 campaign.
The AVCA Team Academic Award, which was first handed out following the conclusion of the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.
For the year, UNLV volleyball posted a 3.57 cumulative team GPA, which was the third best in program history.
Basketball: West Coast Conference player of the year Filip Petrusev announced Monday that he will pursue a professional career in Serbia and not return for his final two years at Gonzaga, citing uncertainty about the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the upcoming college basketball season.
Conferences: The Southwestern Athletic Conference postponed its fall athletic competition because of the COVID-19 pandemic and hopes to hold a shortened football season during the spring semester. The SWAC Council of Presidents and Chancellors announced the decision Monday amid an increase of coronavirus cases in the South.
Fall sports impacted include men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
