Pac-12 player reps meet with commissioner over demands
Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott met with 12 representatives from the #Weareunited player group, with much of the two-hour discussion focused on the conference’s health and safety protocols. Players have demanded the league address COVID-19 protocols, racial injustice and athletes’ economic rights, threatening to skip practices and games if their concerns aren’t addressed.
■ SEC: The Southeastern Conference will require two COVID-19 tests per week this season, and coaches will be required to wear a face mask or neck gaiter on the sideline at all times durng games. Also, competing players must wear a neck gaiter during timeouts or when conferring with coaches on the sideline.
■ Maryland: Senior quarterback Josh Jackson is the most prominent of six Terrapins players to opt out of this season. He played 10 games in 2019 after transferring from Virginia Tech, passing for 1,274 yards and 12 touchdowns.
■ FCS: The annual Football Championship Subdivision playoffs will not be held this fall, even if some schools play a regular season. Eight of the 13 FCS conference aren’t playing this fall.
■ Middle Tennessee State: The Blue
Raiders are making up for losing three games by scheduling two games against Troy, a home game on either Sept. 5 or Sept. 19 and a road game Nov. 21.
■ Florida: Gov. Ron Desantis said he will push to get the annual game between the Gators and Florida State rescheduled, saying that keeping the rivalry going will be good for the state.
■ Michigan State: Senior tackle Jordan
Reid, voted the Spartans’ top offensive lineman in 2019, opted out of this season but plans to redshirt and return in 2021.
■ Big Sky: The league is moving forward with plans to play an eight-game conference schedule in the spring.
