Sibling rivalry reborn: Serena upends Venus in 31st meeting

Serena Williams won the last four games to beat sister Venus 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-hitting, back-andforth, second-round Top Seed Open matchup in Lexington, Kentucky. It was the 31st meeting of their careers,

USTA women: Reigning U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu pulled out of this year’s event, saying the COVID-19 crisis prevented her from properly preparing for competitio­n. A year ago at age 19, Andreescu became the first woman to win the New York title in her tournament debut. Ranked sixth, she is the fourth woman rated in the top seven to pull out of the U.S. Open, joining No. 1 Ash Barty, No. 5 Elina Svitolina and No. 7 Kiki Bertens.

■ USTA men: Top-ranked Novak Djokovic said he will enter the U.S. Open and the hardcourt tuneup preceeding it in New York after initially complainin­g about the U.S. Tennis Associatio­n’s plans to try to protect people from the COVID-19 crisis. The 33-year-old Serbian is 18-0 this season, including an Australian Open victory in February.

■ WTA: At Prague, top-seeded Simona Halep won six straight games to close a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over 118th-ranked Barbora Krejcikova and reach the Prague Open quarterfin­als. The second-ranked Halep doublefaul­ted 10 times.
