Ravens terminate contract of safety Thomas for fight
Baltimore terminated the contract of seven-time Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas, who was involved in a fight with a teammate Friday. If the 31-year-old had been released outright, the Ravens would have taken a $15 million salary-cap hit this year and $10 million in 2021. By voiding his $10 million guaranteed salary for conduct detrimental to the team, he will count $5 million against the cap this season and $10 million next year.
■ Washington: Wide receiver
Cody Latimer, placed on the league’s commissioner exempt list last month, was released. The 27-year-old was arrested in May and charged with a felony count of illegal discharge of a firearm. He also faces charges of second-degree assault, menacing, prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
■ Lions: Free-agent defensive end
Will Clarke signed a contract with undisclosed terms. The 29-year-old
West Virginia product has seven sacks in 53 games with Cincinnati and Tampa Bay. He played for the XFL’S St. Louis Battlehawks last year.
■ Bengals: Wide receiver John
Ross III was removed from the team’s reserve list after returning to camp. The 24-year-old had left to care for his son and the child’s mother, both of whom tested positive for COVID-19.
■ Jets: Rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims (hamstring strain) missed a ninth straight day of practice, and coach Adam Gase said he hopes the secondround draft pick can return “sooner than later.”
■ Cardinals: Free-agent Dre Kirkpatrick signed a one-year deal with undisclosed terms. The 30-year-old spent his previous eight NFL seasons with Cincinnati, which released him in March.
■ 49ers: Rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco’s firstround draft pick, left practice early after sustaining an apparent left hamstring injury.
