WR Hopkins, Cards agree to extension

-

Deandre Hopkins and the Arizona Cardinals agreed to a two-year contract extension Tuesday that will keep the three-time All-pro with the team through the 2024 season. Terms weren’t disclosed, but the NFL Network reported that the extension is worth $54.5 million over two years. The receiver is guaranteed $42.75 million.

Hopkins said he worked on about 90 percent of the deal and had some help from advisers. Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said “it was a great process” and that he got to know the receiver even better during negotiations.

His new deal has a no-trade clause and no-franchise tag clause.

Arizona hopes Hopkins will be one of the cornerstones of an offense that includes second-year quarterback Kyler Murray, running back Kenyan Drake and receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk. The Cardinals open Sunday with a road game against NFC champion San Francisco

Hopkins had three years remaining on a five-year, $81 million deal he signed in 2017.

■ Browns: Cleveland signed running back Kareem Hunt to a two-year, $13.25 million extension. The deal includes $8.5 million guaranteed. Hunt was suspended eight games last season by the NFL for two physical off-field altercations.

■ Washington: Coach Ron Rivera missed Washington’s first game-week practice to begin treatment for a form of skin cancer. Ex-raiders coach Jack Del Rio stepped in and led the team practice. Rivera is expected back at the team’s facility Wednesday.

■ Bills: Buffalo signed receiver

Jake Kumerow to its practice squad Tuesday, three days after he was cut by Green Bay. Kumerow caught a touchdown pass in each of his first two seasons with the Packers.

■ Bears: Kicker Eddy Pineiro, an ex-raider, will miss at least the first three games because of a groin injury after the team placed him on injured reserve Tuesday. Defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. was signed and will take Pineiro’s spot.

■ Giants: New York waived cornerback Deandre Baker with the 22-year-old facing armed robbery charges relating to an incident in Florida in May. Baker has not participated in any team activities since the allegation.

■ Broncos: A person with knowledge of the situation says that Denver fears star linebacker Von Miller suffered a season-ending ankle injury toward the end of practice Tuesday. The team was awaiting results of an MRI.

■ Buccaneers: Running back Leonard Fournette practiced with the team for the first time Tuesday. Quarterback Josh Rosen and kicker Greg Joseph were added to the practice squad.

■ Cowboys: Defensive end Randy Gregory signed a one-year extension through 2021 that includes a $200,000 signing bonus, according to reports. Gregory was reinstated last week by the league after multiple violations of the NFL substance-abuse policy.

■ Jaguars: Quarterback Mike Glennon was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, and Jacksonville placed linebacker Quincy Williams on injured reserve. The team also signed cornerback Sidney Jones to the practice squad.
