WR Crowder hurt, another blow for Jets’ shaky offense

-

The New York Jets’ struggling offense could be without top wide receiver Jamison Crowder against San Francisco on Sunday.

Crowder sat out practice with a hamstring injury after being limited Wednesday. “We’ll be evaluating him further,” coach Adam Gase said.

The 27-year-old had his first 100yard receiving game for the Jets in Week 1, catching seven passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. He had a career-high 78 receptions last season in his first year with New York.

Crowder was targeted 13 times in Week 1, which was 39 percent of quarterback Sam Darnold’s passes — the third-highest target share among all receivers for the week. Gase said he does not believe Crowder is a candidate to be placed on injured reserve, which would sideline him for at least three games.

The Jets were hurt all training camp by injuries to wide receivers. Rookie Denzel Mims (hamstring) is on IR, and Vyncint Smith remains sidelined after having surgery to repair a core muscle injury. New York’s lone healthy receivers on the active roster are Breshad Perriman, Chris Hogan and Braxton Berrios.

Running back Le’veon Bell (hamstring) is on IR, but rookie La’mical Perine (ankle) could be closer to a return. He has been sidelined since Aug. 30. Frank Gore is expected to start at running back Sunday.

■ Broncos: Wide receiver Courtland Sutton (shoulder), who sat out Week 1, “came out of Wednesday’s practice well,” coach Vic Fangio said, though the 24-year-old was limited Thursday. Also, running back Phillip Lindsay (toe) remained sidelined.

■ Chiefs: Ten fans who attended the team’s opener last week were told to quarantine after one fan who watched the game from the group’s box in Arrowhead Stadium’s lower level tested positive for COVID-19, team health officials said.

■ Cardinals: Safety Jalen Thompson (ankle) was placed on IR, and safety Curtis Riley — a former Raider — was signed off Pittsburgh’s practice squad. Thompson, 22, started nine games and had 57 tackles in 2019.

■ Titans: A.J. Brown (knee) did not practice, and wide receiver Corey Davis (hamstring) was a limited participant. ESPN reported Brown could be sidelined “possibly beyond” Week 2.

■ Buccaneers: Wide receiver Chris Godwin remained in the league’s concussion protocol, and the team will be “very cautious” with the 24-yearold Pro Bowl selection, coach Bruce Arians said.

■ Steelers: Running back James Conner (ankle) and wide receivers Juju Smith-schuster (knee) and Diontae Johnson (toe) practiced in full after being held out Wednesday.

■ Dolphins: Wide receiver Devante Parker (hamstring) was limited in practice for a second straight day, and wide receiver Jakeem Grant (calf) was removed from the injury report.

Chargers: Center Mike Pouncey (hip) will have surgery this month and miss the rest of the season, the team said. The 31-year-old is a four-time

Pro Bowl selection.

Ravens: All-pro left offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (hip, ankle), a Bishop Gorman product, returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday.

Giants: Wide receiver Golden

Tate (hamstring), sidelined in Week 1, participated in individual drills at practice.

Lions: Wide receiver Kenny Golladay (hamstring), sidelined in Week 1, again did not practice.

49ers: Rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring), sidelined in Week 1, practiced in full.
