Broncos lose Casey for rest of season

-

Another day, another season-ending injury for the snake-bit Denver Broncos.

This time, it’s five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jurrell Casey, who tore a biceps tendon against Tampa Bay in just his third game since the Broncos acquired him from the Titans in the offseason.

Casey missed just five games in his nine seasons with Tennessee.

Casey is the sixth starter the Broncos (0-3) have lost to injury, a cascade that began just before the opener with linebacker Von Miller’s dislodged ankle tendon that required surgery. He is out until 2021.

The Broncos also have lost wide receiver Courtland Sutton (ACL) for the season and several others for several weeks: quarterback Drew Lock (shoulder), running back Phillip Lindsay (toe), defensive end Dre’ Mont Jones (knee) and cornerback A.J. Bouye (shoulder).

■ Chiefs: Injured defensive end Alex Okafor was placed on the inactive list for Monday night’s game against Baltimore. Okafor played only 10 snaps in Kansas City’s season opener before exiting with a hamstring injury.

■ Jets: Coach Adam Gase says Sam Darnold won’t be benched and remains committed to the struggling quarterback.

■ Bears: Coach Matt Nagy confirmed Nick Foles had done enough in a relief effort of Mitchell Trubisky and selected the Super Bowl LII MVP as the starting quarterback. Nagy also said running back Tarik Cohen has a torn ACL and is out for the season.

■ Seattle: Coach Pete Carroll said injuries to running back Chris Carson, safety Jamal Adams and guard Damien Lewis against Dallas are relatively minor. Carroll was most upset about the injury to Carson, who was hurt on a tackle by Cowboys defensive lineman Trysten Hill. Carson already was down, but Hill continued to roll Carson’s legs and bent his knee awkwardly.

■ Jaguars: Jacksonville signed veteran Steven Hauschka on Monday, giving them a third kicker in the past week. Josh Lambo (hip) was placed on injured reserve last Wednesday, and the Jaguars turned to undrafted rookie Brandon Wright who missed an extra point and injured his groin on Sunday.

■ Browns: Return specialist and wide receiver Jojo Natson is done for the season after he suffered a torn knee ligament in Sunday’s win over Washington.
