SEC teams lose funds for protocol breaches

-

Multiple Southeastern Conference schools will have revenue from the league deducted for not properly following COVID-19 protocols, ESPN reported. A memo sent by SEC commissioner Greg Sankey stated schools will have their conference revenue distribution cut by $100,000 for each week they don’t follow protocols, and suspensions will be considered for failure to comply.

■ Texas: Athletic director

Chris Del Conte said he expected players to “stand together” during the playing of the school song “The Eyes of Texas” after games but didn’t say what would happen if they refused. The song has become controversial after several athletes said over the summer they no longer wanted to sing it because of its connections to racist elements of the school’s past.

■ Cincinnati: The No. 8 Bearcats’ game at Tulsa was rescheduled from Saturday to Dec. 5 because of an undisclosed number of positive COVID-19 tests among Bearcats players, the fifth major college game slated to be played this week to be moved, the 30th to be postponed or canceled since Aug. 26 and the third involving Tulsa.

■ Syracuse: Junior safety Andre Cisco opted out of the rest of the season and plans to enter the 2021 NFL draft. The preseason All-american entered the season with 12 interceptions and snared another Sept. 12 before sustaining a lower-body injury in pregame warmups Sept. 19.

■ Pac-12: In the wake of a petition that began circulating this week aimed at allowing players’ parents to be able to watch their sons play in person this year, the conference clarified it will allow such attendance where permitted by health officials.
