Atlanta police make arrest in actor’s shooting death

Atlanta police announced an arrest in the shooting death of actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd, best known for his roles in Spike Lee films.

Homicide detectives Wednesday obtained a warrant for the arrest of Antonio Demetrice Rhynes, 30, on a felony murder charge based on evidence and tips from the public. Officers arrested him Friday morning, police said in an email.

Police declined to release more information, citing an ongoing investigation.

Byrd was found dead Oct. 3; he had been shot multiple times in the back.
