QB Trubisky gets another shot to start despite flop
Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky’s return to Chicago’s starting lineup was a primetime flop. That won’t stop him from getting at least one more shot.
Coach Matt Nagy said Trubisky will make his second straight start Sunday when the Bears (5-6) try to halt a five-game skid, hosting Detroit (4-7).
Trubisky committed three turnovers in Week 12 in his first start since he was benched for Nick Foles in Week 3 as Chicago lost 41-25 at Green Bay.
Trubisky has his lowest completion percentage (58.3) this season since the Bears drafted him with the No. 2 pick in 2017. In five games and four starts, he has five interceptions, including two in Week 12.
Foles has almost as many interceptions (eight) and touchdown passes (10) in eight games and is
2-5 as Chicago’s starter. His hip injury late in a 19-13 Week 10 loss to Minnesota created an opening for Trubisky. Foles was limited in practice Wednesday.
Good news for Chicago: Some of Trubisky’s best performances have come against Detroit. He has four straight games with three TD passes facing the Lions, including a season-opening 27-23 victory. The Bears rallied from 17 down, with Trubisky throwing for three TDS in the fourth quarter.
■ Jaguars: Quarterback Mike Glennon will start again Sunday even though Gardner Minshew (throwing thumb sprain) is fully healthy, coach Doug Marrone said. Glennon threw for 235 yards and two TDS, didn’t commit a turnover and wasn’t sacked in Jacksonville’s 27-25 Week 12 loss to Cleveland.
■ Broncos: Safety Will Parks was claimed off waivers from Philadelphia after spending his first four NFL seasons with Denver. Also, cornerback Bryce Callahan (foot) was placed on injured reserve, and running back Phillip Lindsay (knee) did not practice.
■ Vikings: Coach Mike Zimmer said he expects wide receiver Adam Thielen (reserve/covid-19 list), sidelined in Week 12, to play Sunday. Also, tight end Irv Smith Jr. (back), sidelined in Week 12 with a groin issue, did not practice.
■ Eagles: Tight end Zach Ertz (ankle), sidelined since Week 6, was activated from IR, offensive tackle Lane Johnson (ankle) was placed on IR, and wide receiver J.J. Arcega-whiteside was activated from the reserve/covid-19 list.
■ Lions: Cornerback Desmond Trufant (hamstring) and defensive tackle Danny Shelton (knee) were placed on IR, and tight end Hunter Bryant (hamstring) was activated from IR.
■ Dolphins: Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (throwing thumb), running back Salvon Ahmed (shoulder) and guard Solomon Kindley (foot), all sidelined in Week 12, were limited in practice.
Texans: Running back David Johnson (concussion) was designated to return from IR.
Colts: Running back Jonathan Taylor was activated from the reserve/covid-19 list.
