She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Irving and Hilda Jacobson on October 24, 1928. Soon after beginning her career in the fashion industry, she met the love of her life, Harold (Sonny) Waldman and they built their life together centered around family, fashion, her canine children, and travel. They lived from coast to coast and loved venturing to new cities putting down new roots teaching their children the meaning of adventure and building relationships.

Doris loved traveling internationally, cooking for her family, going out and dressing to the nines. She also was committed to her politics and lived her life as a staunch democrat. She loved her time on weekends out shopping for ideas and samples for the next seasons fashion line.
