HOF linebacker Greene dead at 58

Hall of Fame linebacker Kevin Greene, considered one of the fiercest pass rushers in NFL history, has died. He was 58.

Greene died Monday, the family confirmed, as did the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

No cause of death was given.

A two-time All-pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection, Greene finished his career with 160 sacks, which ranks third in league history behind only Bruce Smith (200) and Reggie White (198). He also had 23 forced fumbles and five intercepti­ons.

Greene was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.He played 15 seasons in the NFL for four teams: the Los Angeles Rams (1985-92), Pittsburgh Steelers (1993-95), Carolina Panthers (1996, 199899) and San Francisco 49ers. He was All-pro in 1994 and 1996.

■ Browns: Offensive lineman Chris Hubbard is having surgery this week to repair torn ligaments in his knee and will miss the remainder of the season.

■ Chiefs: Running back Clyde Edwards-helaire suffered hip and ankle injuries during Sunday’s game at New Orleans. Edwards-helaire is out for the remainder of the season but has a shot at returning in the playoffs.

■ Eagles: Coach Doug Pederson said Monday that Jalen Hurts will be behind center for the third straight game when Philadelph­ia (4-9-1) visits Dallas (5-9) on Sunday.

■ Lions: Special teams coordinato­r Brayden Coombs was fired on Monday.

■ Panthers: Carolina fired general manager Marty Hurney on Monday after the team lost eight of its last nine games and failed to make the playoffs for a third straight season. Hurney’s contract was set to expire after the season.

■ Patriots: Cornerback Stephon Gilmore suffered a partially torn quad and will have season-ending surgery Tuesday.

■ Seahawks: Josh Gordon was was added to the 53-man roster from the exempt/commission­er permission list on Monday. Gordon is eligible to return from suspension this week and will be able to practice with the team starting Wednesday.

■ Pro Bowl: The league announced the Pro Bowl rosters Monday. In all, there were 26 first-time Pro Bowlers.

Five teams have no Pro Bowl players: the Jaguars, Jets, Bengals, Cowboys and Panthers.
