Dolphins assistant Gailey quits

-

Miami offensive coordinator Chan Gailey resigned one season after coming out of retirement. The Wednesday announcement came one day after Gailey’s 69th birthday and one day after coach Brian Flores said he expected all of his assistants would return in 2021.

With Gailey calling plays, the Dolphins (10-6) — one of the NFL’S youngest teams — scored 404 points, their highest total since 1986. He had a major role in the development of rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who went 6-3 as a starter.

Gailey’s resignation means Flores will have his third offensive coordinator in as many seasons in 2021.

■ Seahawks: Safety Jamal Adams (shoulder), who exited in the second half of Seattle’s Week 17 win, said there is “no question” he will play Saturday. The 25-year-old threetime Pro Bowl selection, who missed four games this season with a groin injury, had a team-high 9½ regular-season sacks.

■ Jets: The team started its coaching search by interviewing Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The 51-year-old, who interviewed with Atlanta and Detroit this week, interviewed with New York in 2019 before Adam Gase was hired.

■ Browns: The team’s latest round of COVID-19 testing revealed no new positives. Its facility remained closed, and a walkthrough practice was conducted virtually.

■ Titans: A trainer tested positive for COVID-19, ESPN reported. The team went through contact tracing but kept its facility open and practiced as scheduled.

■ Texans: New England director of player personnel Nick Caserio was hired as general manager. The 45-year-old had been with the Patriots since 2008.

■ Rams: Wide receiver Cooper Kupp, sidelined in Week 17, was activated from the reserve/covid-19 list.

■ Saints: Wide receiver Michael Thomas (ankle), on injured reserve since Week 14, resumed practicing.
