Guard tests positive for virus; Sixers set to be short-handed

Philadelph­ia is expected to have multiple players sidelined because of COVID-19 contact tracing after guard Seth Curry tested positive for the virus Thursday. The 76ers, who are awaiting results of Friday’s testing, stayed overnight in New York after Curry’s positive test. Curry didn’t play Thursday because of a sore left ankle after scoring 28 points Wednesday in the 76ers’ win over Washington.

■ Celtics: The team was without its entire frontcourt rotation Friday after Robert Williams tested positive for COVID-19 and Findlay Prep product Tristan Thompson and Grant Williams were ruled out because of contact tracing. Also, All-star guard Kemba Walker was cleared to begin practicing. The 30-year-old hasn’t played this season after receiving a stem cell injection in his left knee in October.

■ Knicks: Taj Gibson re-signed with the team, and fellow forward Omari Spellman was waived. Gibson, 35, averaged 6.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game over 62 games with New York in 2019-20. He has averaged 9.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in 11 NBA seasns with four teams.

■ Hawks: Guard Rajon Rondo (sore right knee), sidelined the past three games, will miss at least three more games, the team said. The 34-year-old four-time All-star will be reevaluate­d Wednesday.

■ G League: Plans were announced for a season to begin around Feb. 8, with 18 teams playing exclusivel­y at the Walt Disney World resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, for approximat­ely one month.
