3 Tips for Choosing an Individual Health Plan

- By Rhonda Check, Vice President of Individual Sales, Health Plan of Nevada

Nevada’s Open Enrollment Period for On and Off Exchange individual health plans is coming to an end, which means the opportunity to select or switch your individual health insurance plan for 2021 is fast approaching. With the various options to choose from, you want to feel confident you are picking the right plan for you and your family before time runs out.

Nevada’s On Exchange Individual Plan open enrollment period ends Friday, January 15. Health Plan of Nevada has tips all Nevadans should consider when choosing a plan to best support their health insurance needs.

Understand Your Options

Insurance can give you peace of mind and security. It can help pay for routine care, as well as large medical bills such as hospital visits or treatment for a chronic illness. When it comes to selecting a plan, one size does not fit all. Whether you are selecting a plan for the first time or evaluating how well your current plan is meeting your needs, take the time to understand and compare the benefits, services, and costs of each plan so you can find what may work best for you.

Health Plan of Nevada has more than 20 On Exchange plans available to meet the diverse needs of Nevada families. One level of plan available is the Silver plan. Silver plans offer assistance with premium and out-of-pocket costs to those who qualify, giving many Nevadans little or no cost options for their health insurance. A Silver plan may be your best option for the value.

Consider a plan with convenient ways to get care

If you are busy juggling kids’ schedules, work responsibilities, or simply prefer to connect with a doctor from the convenience of your own home, consider choosing a plan that provides a variety of ways to access care.

Health Plan of Nevada gives members the opportunity to video chat with a provider 24/7. Beyond the convenience, virtual visits may also save consumers time and money. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), a virtual visit may save consumers more than an hour of their time. And, with most Health Plan of Nevada insurance plans, virtual visits are no cost when using Nowclinic®, saving both time and money compared to a trip to urgent care or an emergency room. In addition to virtual visits, members can also get care with urgent care house calls.

When a higher level of care is needed, it’s good to know Health Plan of Nevada has the largest provider network in Nevada and access to all major hospitals in Nevada.

Ask about health education and wellness programs

Some health plans offer benefits beyond visits to doctors and hospitals, such as wellness programs that may help you manage diabetes, quit smoking or learn about nutrition. Health Plan of Nevada offers many programs and services online to help you live your healthiest life.

Now is not the time to be without health care coverage, and for Nevadans interested in On and Off Exchange plans, time is running out. Explore options before the deadline to ensure you’re covered. Visit Choosehpn.com or call 1-800-873-0004.
