Lady Rebels rally, deal New Mexico first loss
Delaynie Byrne scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half to help UNLV surge past previously unbeaten New Mexico 7860 in a Mountain West women’s basketball game Friday at Cox Pavilion.
The Lady Rebels (5-5, 3-2) trailed by 14 points in the first quarter but held the Lobos (5-1, 2-1) — who boast the nation’s top-scoring offense — to 17 second-half points on 27.6-percent shooting.
Keyana Wilfred had 12 points and seven rebounds for UNLV, which held a 54-38 edge in rebounds that led to a 19-5 advantage in second-chance points. The Lady Rebels scored 23 points off 18 New Mexico turnovers.
Latascya Duff scored 17 points and Ahlise Hurst 16 for the Lobos, who led 21-9 after one quarter and 43-35 at halftime.
UNLV went up 57-56 on
Bailey Thomas’ steal and layup with 36 seconds left in the third quarter and didn’t trail again.
■ No. 1 Stanford 82, Utah 54: At Salt Lake City, Kiana Williams scored 18 points and Hannah Jump 15 — both all on 3-pointers — for the Cardinal (11-0, 8-0 Pac-12), who improved to 26-1 against the Utes (3-8, 2-8). Stanford had runs of 15-0 and 16-1.

■ No. 9 Wisconsin 60, Rutgers 54: At Piscataway, N.J., D’mitrik Trice had eight points and an assist in a 12-0 run that put the Badgers (11-3, 5-2 Big Ten) up 54-44 with 4:19 left. Trice totaled 13 points and five assists. Jacob Young scored 17 points for the Scarlet Knights (7-5, 3-5).
MOUNTAIN WEST MEN
■ UNR 73, Fresno State 57: At Reno, Grant Sherfield scored 23 points for the Wolf Pack (9-5, 4-3), who shot 51.9 percent and held a 37-26 edge in rebounds while holding the Bulldogs (5-4, 3-4) to 37.5-percent shooting.
