Providence edges No. 11 Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. — Nate Watson scored a career-high 29 points as Providence turned back Creighton each time it pulled close to beat the 11th-ranked Bluejays 74-70 on Wednesday.

Creighton (10-4, 6-3 Big East), which missed 18 of 23 3-point tries, trailed by 17 in the first half but got within two points four times in the final six minutes. Damien Jefferson scored a career-high 26 points for the Bluejays. Alyn Breed had 15 points for the Friars (8-6, 4-4).

At Houston, Marcus Sasser scored 26 points for the Cougars (12-1, 7-1 American Athletic), who avenged their lone loss this season. The Golden Hurricane (8-5, 5-3) shot 37 percent and were outrebounded 52-24.

Tyler Wahl had 14 points to lead the Badgers (12-3, 6-2 Big Ten), who held the Wildcats (6-7, 3-6) scoreless for a six-minute second-half stretch.
