Providence edges No. 11 Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. — Nate Watson scored a career-high 29 points as Providence turned back Creighton each time it pulled close to beat the 11th-ranked Bluejays 74-70 on Wednesday.

Creighton (10-4, 6-3 Big East), which missed 18 of 23 3-point tries, trailed by 17 in the first half but got within two points four times in the final six minutes. Damien Jefferson scored a career-high 26 points for the Bluejays. Alyn Breed had 15 points for the Friars (8-6, 4-4).

■ No. 8 Houston 86, Tulsa 59:

At Houston, Marcus Sasser scored 26 points for the Cougars (12-1, 7-1 American Athletic), who avenged their lone loss this season. The Golden Hurricane (8-5, 5-3) shot 37 percent and were outrebound­ed 52-24.

■ No. 10 Wisconsin 68, Northweste­rn 52: At Madison, Wis.,

Tyler Wahl had 14 points to lead the Badgers (12-3, 6-2 Big Ten), who held the Wildcats (6-7, 3-6) scoreless for a six-minute second-half stretch.

■ Georgia Tech 83, No. 20 Clemson 65: At Atlanta, Michael Devoe had 22 points to lead three 20-point scorers for the Yellow Jackets (7-3, 6-1 Atlantic Coast), who shot 57 percent and forced 20 turnovers by the Tigers (9-3, 3-3).

MOUNTAIN WEST

■ Boise State 73, Fresno State 51: At Boise, Idaho, Derrick Alston Jr. scored 21 points for the Broncos (131, 9-0) in their 13th straight win. The Bulldogs (5-6, 3-6), who led 30-28 at halftime.

WOMEN

■ No. 9 Baylor 77, Oklahoma State 58: At Stillwater, Okla., Moon Ursin scored 20 points for the Lady Bears (9-2, 4-1 Big 12), who held the Cowgirls (9-5, 5-3) to 33-percent shooting and a season-low point total.
