Quick sharp, gets plenty of help in Kings’ victory

Kopitar leads balanced offense in blitz of Blues

ST. LOUIS — Anze Kopitar had a goal and two assists, and Jonathan Quick made 28 saves to help the

Los Angeles Kings beat the St. Louis Blues 6-3 on Sunday.

Alex Iafallo, Carl Gundstrom, Gabriel Vilardi, Lias Andersson and Drew Doughty scored for the Kings. Quick improved to 2-0-2. Brayden Schenn scored twice for the Blues to back Ville Husso, who stopped 29 shots in his first NHL start.

Los Angeles took the lead with first-period goals 23 seconds apart from Iafallo and Gundstrom. The Kings went up 4-1 in the second period on goals 1:57 apart from Vilardi and Kopitar.

■ Sabres 4, Capitals 3, SO: At Washington, Jack Eichel scored the lone shootout goal to back Linus Ullmark, who had 28 saves through overtime and three in the shootout. Vitek Vanecek stopped 45 shots and allowed three power-play goals for Washington.

■ Devils 2, Islanders 0: At

Newark, N.J., Ty Smith set up two first-period goals to become the sixth NHL rookie defenseman to get points in his first five games, and Scott Wedgewood had 28 saves in his first NHL shutout since 2017.

■ Stars 3, Predators 2: At Dallas, Joe Pavelski scored twice for Dallas, which became the third NHL team to score eight power-play goals in its first two games of a season. The Stars are 8-for-12 with the man advantage.

■ Oilers 4, Jets 3: At Winnipeg, Manitoba, Connor Mcdavid had three assists, including one on Leon Draisaitl’s winning goal in the final second, to back Mikko Koskinen, who had 35 saves.

■ Penguins 3, Rangers 2: At Pittsburgh, Jake Guentzel’s 100th goal broke a 2-2 tie with 1:31 left, and Pittsburgh moved to 4-0 at home for the first time in eight years.

■ Ducks 3, Avalanche 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Jakob Silfverber­g scored in the first period and Rickard Rakell in the second to back John Gibson, who stopped 32 shots.

■ Sharks 5, Wild 3: At St. Paul, Minn., Brent Burns scored the goahead goal with 1:48 left for San Jose after the Sharks had blown a 3-1 lead.

■ Blackhawks 6, Red Wings 2: At Chicago, Pius Suter scored his first three NHL goals to back Kevin Lankinen, who stopped 25 shots.

■ Maple Leafs 3, Flames 2: At Calgary, Alberta, Morgan Reilly had three assists to back Jack Campbell, who had 31 saves.
