Big shot by Scott nets win for Lions

Dons upended in final minute

Eli Scott scored the goahead layup with 24 seconds left and totaled 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead Loyola Marymount past San Francisco 70-66 in the West Coast Conference men’s basketball tournament Friday at Orleans Arena.

Mattias Markusson added 17 points for the fifth-seeded Lions (13-8), who face fourth-seeded Saint Mary’s (13-8) in a quarterfin­al at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Dzmitry Ryuny scored 19 points for the Dons (1114), who lost seven of their final eight games. They lost twice to LMU in the regular season, 68-63 on Feb. 18 and 68-60 on Jan. 10.

Jalin Anderson and Ivan Alipiev scored 10 points apiece for the Lions, who shot 60.6 percent and held a 31-19 edge in rebounds.

Still, the game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than five points. It was tied 31-31 at halftime.

Jamaree Bouyea had 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds and Josh Kunen 11 points for San Francisco, which shot 46.4 percent.

■ Santa Clara 81, Pacific 76: Josip Vrankic scored 24 points for the seventh-seeded Broncos (12-7), who built a 47-31 halftime lead and held off the sixth-seeded Tigers (9-9).

Guglielmo Caruso added 14 points for Santa Clara, which faces third-seeded Pepperdine (11-11) in a quarterfin­al at 9 p.m. Saturday.

Daniss Jenkins scored 16 points, and Pierre Cockrell II and Jeremiah Bailey added 14 apiece for Pacific, which beat the Broncos 79-58 in their lone regular-season meeting Jan. 14.

Santa Clara shot 55.4 percent to overcome the Tigers’ 33-28 edge in rebounds. Pacific shot 48.5 percent.

Keshawn Justice and Jalen Williams each scored 11 points for the Broncos. Jordan Bell had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers.

WOMEN

■ Saint Mary’s 69, Pacific 55: Taycee Wedin had 21 points and eight rebounds for the seventh-seeded

Gaels (7-18), who closed the first half on a 17-1 run while holding the sixth-seeded Tigers (11-11) without a field goal for 8:17.

Madeline Holland scored 17 points and Emily Codding 13 for Saint Mary’s, which next faces third-seeded San Francisco (14-9) in a quarterfin­al at 2 p.m. Saturday.

■ Loyola Marymount 74, Portland56: Khari Clark had 22 points and eight rebounds for the eighth-seeded Lions (7-18), who avenged two regular-season losses to the fifth-seeded Pilots (12-12).

Jasmine Jones and Chelsey Gipson scored 13 points apiece for LMU, which faces fourth-seeded Santa Clara (13-10) in a quarterfin­al at 11 a.m. Saturday.
