Lady Rebels land second seed for MW tournament

UNLV is seeded second for the Mountain West women’s basketball tournament, set for the Thomas & Mack Center from Sunday to Wednesday. Seedings were determined by overall winning percentage­s. The Lady Rebels (15-8) open in the quarterfin­als at 5:30 p.m. Monday against Wyoming (10-9) or Utah State (4-19). New Mexico (13-3) is seeded No. 1.

■ Softball: At Eller Media Stadium, Mia Trejo hit a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly to lead the Rebels to a 10-2 win over Idaho State (3-3). In UNLV’S second game, Stefanie Madrigal held the Rebels (8-4) to one run and struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings in a 4-1 win by Seattle (7-10).

■ Women’s soccer: At Johann Memorial Field, Emberly Sevilla had four saves for the Rebels in their seasonopen­ing double-overtime 0-0 tie against Mountain West title favorite Boise

State.

■ Men’s soccer: At Johann Memorial Field, Gabriel Claudio scored on a 72ndminute header to lift the Rebels (1-12) to a 1-0 win over Houston Baptist (0-4-1).

■ Men’s tennis: At San Diego, August Holmgren and David Norfeldt won in singles and teamed for a doubles victory to lead San Diego (4-1) to a 7-0 shutout of the Rebels (3-7).

■ Men’s golf: At Boulder Creek

Golf Club, the Rebels shot rounds of 6-under-par 282 and 9-under 279 to take a 13-stroke lead in the nine-team Jackrabbit Invitation­al.

■ Cross country: At Craig Ranch Regional Park, the Rebels placed ninth in the nine-team Mountain West Championsh­ips. New Mexico won its 13th straight title.
