Oregon surges late in upset of Georgia

Ducks reach fourth consecutiv­e Sweet 16

SAN ANTONIO — Sedona Prince scored 22 points, Nyara Sabally took over late, and sixth-seeded Oregon beat third-seeded Georgia 57-50 on Wednesday in the women’s NCAA Tournament’s Alamo Region to advance to its fourth straight Sweet 16.

Sabally scored six straight points — including a putback of her own miss — to put the Ducks (15-8) up 54-48 in the final minute. She totaled 15 points, including 10 in the second half, and nine rebounds.

Jenna Staiti had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (21-7), who missed 12 of 13 3-point tries.

■ Louisville 62, Northweste­rn 53: Kianna Smith had 16 points for the second-seeded Cardinals (25-3), who trailed by 18 in the first quarter and by 10 midway through the third. Jordan Hamilton had 17 points for the seventh-seeded Wildcats (16-9).

■ Missouri State 64, Wright State 39: Elle Ruffridge scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half for the fifth-seeded Lady Bears (23-2). The 13th-seeded Raiders (19-8) were outscored 40-20 over the final two quarters.

MERCADO REGION

■ Texas A&M 84, Iowa State 82, OT: Jordan Nixon banked in a short jumper at the overtime buzzer and totaled 35 points for the second-seeded Aggies (25-2), who didn’t lead until the extra session. They moved to their third straight Sweet 16. Ashley Joens had 32 points and 18 rebounds for the seventh-seeded Cyclones (17-11), who made 16 of 30 3-point tries.

■ Arizona 52, Brigham Young 46: Centennial product Sam Thomas hit a 3-pointer with 3:47 left to put the third-seeded Wildcats (18-5) ahead to stay, and they advanced to their first Sweet 16 since 1998. The 11th-seeded Cougars (19-6) led by four with five minutes left.

■ Indiana 70, Belmont 48: Grace Berger had 17 points for the fourth-seeded Hoosiers (17-9), who gained their first Sweet 16 berth. The 12th-seeded Bruins (21-6) missed 15 of 17 second-quarter shots and trailed 30-18 at halftime.

HEMISFAIR REGION

■ Texas 71, UCLA 62: Celeste Taylor had 24 points for the sixth-seeded Longhorns (20-9), who held the third-seeded Bruins (17-6) scoreless for 6½ minutes during a 12-0 second-quarter run. UCLA trailed 35-14 at halftime and 51-41 after three quarters.

■ Maryland 100, Alabama 64: The second-seeded Terrapins (27-2) shot 68 percent in the first half while converting 11 turnovers by the seventh-seeded Crimson Tide (17-10) into 18 points. Maryland led 54-25 at intermissi­on.
