Texas stonewalls Maryland
Defense, late rally propel Longhorns to Elite Eight trip
SAN ANTONIO — Charli Collier had 16 points and 11 rebounds as sixth-seeded Texas shut down second-seeded Maryland’s high-powered offense for a 64-61 win Sunday in the Hemisfair Region, sending the Longhorns to the Elite Eight as the lowest seed still alive in the women’s NCAA Tournament.

The Terrapins (26-3) had the nation’s top-scoring offense in the regular season and averaged 99 points in the first two rounds before running into Texas (219).
The Longhorns tied it at 59 on Celeste Taylor’s jumper in the final minute and took the lead when Kyra Lambert scooped up a loose ball near midcourt and coasted in for a layup with 45 seconds left.
Taylor had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Diamond Miller scored 21 points to lead Maryland, which missed 17 of 22 3-point tries.
■ South Carolina 76, Georgia Tech 65: Zia Cooke scored 17 points for the top-seeded Gamecocks (25-4), including a 3-pointer that capped a 5-0 run after the fifth-seeded Yellow Jackets (17-9) had gotten within
69-63 in the fourth quarter. Lotta-maj Lahtinen had 20 points for Georgia Tech, which trailed 39-35 at halftime. South Carolina reached a regional final for the third time in the past four NCAA Tournaments.

■ Stanford 89, Missouri
State 62: Hannah Jump had 17 points for the top-seeded Cardinal (28-2), who led by 23 at halftime and by 38 in the fourth quarter to bury the fifth-seeded Lady Bears (23-3) and advance to their 21st Elite Eight. Elle Ruffridge had 18 points for Missouri State, which missed nine of its first 10 shots and struggled with Stanford’s height and length near the basket.
■ Louisville 60, Oregon 42: Dana Evans scored seven of her 29 points in a 13-0 second-half run that put the top-seeded Cardinals (26-3) up 56-37. The seventh-seeded Ducks (15-9) mustered six second-quarter points and trailed 29-14 at halftime. Oregon, which was trying to get to its fourth straight Elite Eight, lost standout forward Nyara Sabally to an ankle injury late in the third quarter. She scored 14 points.
