Surge in fourth quarter carries Lakers by Magic

-

LOS ANGELES — Dennis Schroder scored 24 points, Kyle Kuzma added 21, and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the Orlando Magic 96-93 on Sunday.

Montrezl Harrell added 18 points for Los Angeles, which has won two in a row without injured Lebron James and Anthony Davis. However, the Lakers had a tough time trying to shake the Eastern Conference’s second-worst team.

Dwayne Bacon scored 26 points and Chuma Okeke 14 for Orlando, which has lost 13 of its past 15. Otto Porter Jr. had a clean look at a 3-pointer to send it to overtime, but the shot hit the rim.

The Magic led 82-77 with 7:19 left after R.J. Hampton drilled a 3-pointer. The Lakers trailed 8480 midway through the fourth quarter before going on a 12-1 run to seize control as Schroder and Kuzma each had five points.

Los Angeles had a seven-point lead with less than three minutes to go, but the Magic got within three going to the final possession.

■ Trail Blazers 122, Raptors 117: At Tampa, Fla., C.J. Mccollum scored seven of his 23 points in the final two minutes for Portland, which dealt Toronto its 11th loss in 12 games. The Raptors led 74-68 at halftime.

■ Suns 101, Hornets 97, OT: At Charlotte, N.C., Devin Booker scored 35 points for Phoenix, which overcame 35.4-percent shooting to win for the first time in four overtime games this season.

■ Nuggets 126, Hawks 102: At Denver, Nikola Jokic had 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for Denver, which extended a 10-point halftime lead to 20 early in the third quarter.
