Diamondbacks’ Marte lands on IL
2019 All-star off to .462 start with six extra-base hits
Arizona center fielder/ middle infielder Ketel Marte (right hamstring strain) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The 27-year-old 2019 All-star likely will get an
MRI examination when the team returns from Colorado, manager Torey Lovullo said. Marte is hitting .462 with a majors-best 12 hits, including six for extra bases (two home runs, four doubles), through six games.
■ Braves: Right-hander Mike Soroka’s bid to return from right Achilles surgery is delayed because of right shoulder inflammation, and the 23-year-old will be shut down for two weeks, manager Brian Snitker said. Soroka, who went 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA in 29 2019 starts, tore the Achilles on Aug. 3 of last season.
■ Athletics: Closer Trevor Rosenthal, weighing options as to whether to undergo thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, was transferred from the 10- to the 60-day
IL, and left-hander A.J.
Puk (left biceps strain) was placed on the 10-day IL. Puk pitched 3⅓ shutout innings of relief Monday in his 2021 debut.
■ Mets: Four-time AllStar reliever Dellin Betances (right shoulder impingement) was placed on the 10-day IL. The 33-year-old right-hander has allowed one run in one inning this season.
■ Dodgers: MLB is investigating balls collected from right-hander Trevor Bauer’s start Wednesday because they had “visible markings and were sticky,” The Athletic reported.
■ Mariners: Tommy John surgery was recommended for left-hander James Paxton (left forearm strain), who was placed on the IL Wednesday, MLB Network reported.
■ Cardinals: Six-time All-star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (tight lower back) was held out of St. Louis’ lineup. The 33-yearold is batting .308 in 2021.
■ Tigers: Pitching coach Chris Fetter, 35, rejoined the team after being sidelined since March 29 because of a positive COVID-19 test.
