Two-time Olympian hired to coach with UNLV track

Dorian Scott was named coach of UNLV’S women’s track and field and cross country programs. A two-time Olympian and 10-time national Jamaican shot put champion, Scott spent the past nine years as Florida State’s director of field events and throws coach. Scott previously was an All-america athlete with the Seminoles.

■ Cycling: At Saint-lary-soulan Col du Portet, France, Tour de France leader Tadej Pogacar notched his first stage win since claiming the yellow jersey in the eighth stage, pacing the 110.9-mile 17th stage that started in Muret. Pogacar, 22, the reigning champion, stretched his overall edge to 5 minutes, 39 seconds.

■ Horse racing: A New York federal judge nullified trainer Bob Baffert’s suspension, finding the New York Racing Associatio­n acted unconstitu­tionally by failing to let him adequately respond to claims made against him after Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit failed a postrace drug test.

■ Golf: At Midland, Mich., Nelly and Jessica Korda teamed to shoot 5-underpar 65 in alternate shot play for a share of the LPGA Tour’s Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitation­al first-round lead with defending champions Cydney Clanton and Jasmine Suwannapur­a and two other teams.

■ Soccer: Free-agent forward Lionel Messi agreed to a five-year contract to stay with Barcelona at a significan­t wage reduction from his previous four-year, $594 million deal, ESPN reported. The 34-year-old has a club-record 672 goals in a club-record 778 matches.

■ MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers righthande­r Trevor Bauer’s administra­tive leave was extended to July 27, past a scheduled July 23 hearing for a domestic violence restrainin­g order filed by a woman in L.A. County Superior Court.
