Yankees game postponed after multiple positive COVID tests

-

The New York Yankees game Thursday against Boston was postponed because of positive COVID-19 tests among vaccinated pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes and Wandy Peralta.

Outfielder Aaron Judge, catcher Kyle Higashioka and infielder

Gio Urshela also are in COVID-19 protocols, ESPN reported. General manager Brian Cashman said three additional tests were pending; he assumed they would come back positive.

Cashman said MLB had not decided whether to postpone Friday’s game. This was the majors’ eighth Covid-related postponement this year and first since April 19.

■ Red Sox: Left-hander Chris Sale pitched in a game for the first time since having Tommy John surgery in March 2020, throwing three scoreless innings Thursday for the FCL Red Sox in Sarasota, Florida.

The 32-year-old seven-time All-star allowed four hits and struck out five. ■ Obit: Former pitcher Dick Tidrow, who spent the past 28 seasons working in San Francisco’s front office, died unexpectedly Saturday, the Giants said. He was 74. Tidrow went 100-94 with a 3.68 ERA in 620 games over 13 major league seasons with five teams.

■ Blue Jays: The team’s return to its Toronto ballpark is “trending in a very good direction,” said Dr. Howard Njoo, Canada’s deputy chief public health officer. Njoo said there as been “a lot of good back-andforth” between the team and government.

■ Braves: Outfielder Joc Pederson was acquired from the Chicago Cubs for minor league first baseman Bryce Ball. Pederson, 29, hit .230 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIS in his first Cubs season after seven with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

■ Mariners: MLB special adviser John Mchale Jr. upheld reliever Hector Santiago’s 10-game suspension for violating the majors’ foreign substance rule. Seattle must play one man short while Santiago serves the penalty.
