Stafford, Rams sweat out victory over winless Lions
Matthew Stafford passed for 334 yards and three touchdowns against his former team, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey made an end zone interception with five minutes left in the host Los Angeles Rams’ 28-19 victory over Jared Goff and Detroit.
Goff passed for 268 yards and nearly led the Lions (0-7) to an upset win in his first meeting with the Rams (6-1), who traded him for Stafford last winter. Los Angeles led 25-19 when Goff drove Detroit to the Rams’ 12 in the waning minutes while converting four third downs.
But Ramsey came up with his latest game-changing play on his 27th birthday when he picked off an errant throw by Goff, who was being hit by the Rams’ other 2020 All-pro, defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
Wide receiver Cooper Kupp had 10 catches for 156 yards and two TDS for Los Angeles, including the go-ahead score with 13:59 to play.
Running back D’andre Swift made a 63-yard catch-and-run TD on the opening possession for the Lions, who lost their 11th straight game. Wide receiver Kalif Raymond had six catches for 115 yards.
■ Buccaneers 38, Bears 3: At Tampa, Fla., Tom Brady threw for 211 yards and four TDS while becoming the first NFL player to throw 600 TD passes as Tampa Bay (6-1) reached the best seven-game start in franchise history. Wide receiver
Mike Evans had six catches for 76 yards and three TDS. Rookie Justin Fields threw three interceptions, absorbed four sacks and lost two fumbles for Chicago (3-4). Bears rookie Khalil Herbert ran for 100 yards on 18 carries.
■ Packers 24, Washington 10: At Green Bay, Wis., Aaron Rodgers threw for 274 yards and three TDS for Green Bay (6-1), which won its sixth straight. Taylor Heinicke threw for 268 yards and a TD and ran for 95 yards on 10 carries for Washington (25), which held a 430-304 edge in yards of offense but had five scoreless trips inside the Green Bay 30, including back-to-back series that ended inside the 5.
