FR. THOMAS EMMET GALLENBACH April 14, 1932 - October 2, 2021

Father Tom (as he was affectiona­tely called) was born in Springfiel­d, IL. He graduated from St. Teresa’s High School in Decatur, IL, in 1950. On May 24,

1958 Father Tom was ordained a Catholic priest for the Springfiel­d Diocese. In 1963 he joined the chaplaincy of the U.S. Air Force serving in Crete, Thailand, Germany, England and in the United States in Alaska, Texas, Kansas, California, Washington D.C. and twice in Nevada where he retired as a colonel in June 1993. In September, 1993 Father Tom became a part-time assistant to Father Joe Anthony at the newly formed parish, St. Joseph, Husband of Mary where he celebrated his 40th, 50th and 60th anniversar­ies of his ordination to the priesthood. Father Tom’s work as a priest included leadership roles in Partners for Life Marriage Prep, Marriage Encounter, Retrouvail­le, Catholic Boy Scouts,

Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, Bereavemen­t Ministry, AA Retreats, Calix, Parent Effectiven­ess Training, RCIA and RCIC Training. Father Tom was predecease­d by his parents, Katherine (Coleman) Gallenbach and

Carl, brothers Charles and Bernard. He is survived by his brother Robert, nephews Thomas (Jennifer), Todd (Teri), niece, Cathleen (Michael), grand nephews, Ethan Gallenbach, Nathan Gallenbach, grand nieces, Rebecca Gallenbach, Sarah Gallenbach, Andrea Anderson, Rachel Norris, Taylor Cody and friend of 51 years, Dr. Joan Tansey. Visitation will be at 4 p.m., with Vigil following at 6 p.m. Wed., Nov 3. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thu. Nov. 4, with a light luncheon to follow, all at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Church. This will also be streamed on St. Joseph, Husband of Mary’s Youtube page. In memory of Father Thomas E. Gallenbach donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Nevada.
