EDWARD CASTELLO JUNE 8, 1922 – OCTOBER 20, 2021

-

Edward Castello, 99, devoted husband and loving father, of Henderson, died peacefully in his sleep, at home, with his wife of 62 years, at his bedside surrounded with the love of his family. He is survived by his wife, Julie, 85, son Paul, 59 and daughter Darlene, 58. Edward “Luis Eduardo” Castello, was born on June 8, 1922, to Alberto and Maria Theresa Castillo, in Bogota, Colombia. In 1940, at the age of 18 years old, he relocated to Los Angeles, to attend UCLA where he studied civil engineering. After graduating from UCLA, he began his professional career with Mobile Oil Company. This new career afforded him the opportunity to travel around the world, which he took full advantage of. In 1958, one of his travels took him to Spain, where a brief encounter and glimpse of a “beautiful red head” named Julie

“Julia” Fernandez, age 22 grabbed his attention and shortly thereafter captured his heart. After corresponding back and forth for one year, at the age of 37, he made a decision to start a new journey in life. He traveled once again to Spain, where on September 5, 1959, he married Julie (Fernandez) Castello. He returned to California with his new bride, purchased his first home in Burbank, and shortly thereafter, in 1962 his son Paul was born and 16 months later I arrived, his daughter Darlene. Between 1968 – 1971, career advancements afforded him the opportunity to travel the world, introducing his family to new experiences and cultures, outside of the United States. In 1969 a government contract landed his family in Australia. In 1972, after fulfilling his contract requirements, he moved his family back to the United States. My father was a visionary, and Las Vegas, captured his attention, so in 1972 instead of moving back to Burbank, he chose to follow his vision and Las Vegas, became our new home. Within 2-3 weeks he was gainfully employed for the City of Henderson, as a civil engineer in the Public Works Department and retired several years later at the age of 67. My father was a proud, intelligent and tenacious man. He had the courage to follow his dreams and took advantage when the opportunity arose. In addition to being employed for the City of Henderson, he contributed to the city’s growth, by designing and developing both the Monte Carlo Apartments and Villa Hermosa Mobile Home Park. Edward Castello’s most significant accomplishment and contribution in life was his endless devotion and love for his family. He was relentless in his desire and pursuit to provide for his family’s future and left this world in peace, knowing he had achieved this goal.
