Nevada fishing report
■ Lake Mead — Stripers are boiling in Boulder Basin. Action has been best a few hours before sunset. Live shad is the bait of choice, but topwater lures also are landing nice catches. Black bass are most active in the mornings in the backs of coves with heavy vegetation, with Rat-l-traps working best. For catfish, try corn or anchovies fished off the bottom in Government Wash or at the Hemenway pier.
■ Lake Mohave/willow Beach — Rainbow trout action has been steady. Worms and Powerbait combinations are producing 1- to 2-pound catches. Stripers are boiling in the mornings near Cottonwood Cove. Fish are attacking Zara Spooks and other topwater lures, crankbaits and swimbaits. Water levels will be low through the winter.
■ Laughlin — Shore anglers are catching rainbow trout limits after recent plants. Rooster Tails and garlic Powerbait are producing nice catches. Worms also work well for trout and catfish. Striped bass are hitting jig heads with worms at Davis Dam. Swimbaits and crankbaits in shad or trout patterns also are good choices for stripers.
■ Las Vegas urban ponds — Anglers had a good weekend fishing for catfish and bluegill. Catfish took night crawlers and hot dog pieces. Bass chased Texas rigs at Floyd
Lamb Park. The best action has been in the late mornings and at sunset.
■ Kirch Wildlife Management Area — Water levels are low, and vegetation is thick. Rainbow trout action has been best from boats. Trout are hitting Powerbait and night crawlers at Adams-mcgill Reservoir. Anglers also are having success with spoons, Kastmasters and Super Dupers. Outdoor enthusiasts can pursue fish while on the lookout for ducks.
■ Eagle Valley Reservoir — Fishing has been good after recent trout plants.
Fish are taking Powerbait, spinners and small spoons. Overnight temperatures have dropped below freezing.
■ Echo Canyon Reservoir — Rainbow trout action has been excellent, with boaters having the most success. With water levels low, the best action is found off the dam. Fish are taking Powerbait in rainbow, orange and green, as well as Rooster Tails and other spinners. Be prepared for weather conditions to change quickly.
